What is the name of your state? Mississippi
When I was 17, I had a baby. The baby's father died when I was pregnant. The father's name is on the birth certificate. I have filed for SS Death Benefits for my son, but they keep saying he's not eligible. My son't father worked continuously for about a year and a half before his death. My son's grandmother says that she has seen proof that her son worked enough quarters to make my son eligible. Now I am in the process of collecting his work records so that I can file an appeal with the social security office. Several people I've talked to have said that it shouldn't matter how long he worked, my son should still be able to collect benefits. Does anyone know anything about this? I can't afford a lawyer, or I would have one.
