I live in North Carolina and had a will drawn up by
a lawyer last year. I wish to change the beneficiaries
but I can't locate my old lawyer and his phone has been disconected.

Can I copy the printout of the will myself onto a word document changing the beneficiaries, print it and have it notorized as a legal document without a lawyer??

DEAR MARTY:

What you suggest would be permissible, with the signatures of at least 2 witnesses must be notarized (in addition to your signature, of course). It will avoid complications if the witnesses are not beneficiaries and are people who do not benefit from the will.

Please make sure that at least 2 people (1 of them being the executor, if possible) know where your will is kept so there will be no difficulty locating it at the appropriate time.

SINCERELY,
