If you are in someones will and there will be no reading of it, how do you find out what was left to you after they die.

Also if someone turns everything over into your name before they die, isn't there some kind of tax that you have to pay ?

DEAR MOSIER:

If you know the city and state where the decedent died, then you should contact the county courthouse for that city to find out if the will has been filed yet. If it has been filed, then you can request a copy of it (since it is public record).

Please be aware that it takes a few months to process an estate, and that estate expenses must be deducted before the amount that is distributed to heirs can be calcuated.

The tax that is paid depends on what type of money or property that is specifically received. An accountant or a probate attorney can give you more specific advice after you know what type of money or property is involved.

SINCERELY,
