live in louisiana & want to use either "family lawyer" or "willmaker" to create my will, however, both of the software packages have exclusions that state "estate planning not valid in louisiana". does this totally exclude louisianans from creating their own wills via one of these packages?

DEAR CALMEYER:

How much is the estate worth? Please spend a few hundred dollars with an attorney to have your will professionally prepared according to Louisiana state law. The do-it-yourself kits are no good since their language could be ambiguous or confusing or illegal and such wills could be declared invalid and your estate would end up being distributed according to intestate law (means "without a will"), which could end up being very different from what you originally intended.

SINCERELY,

advisor
