What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

hypothetical:

Print Manufacturer (produces other people brochures, direct mail etc.) has no workman's comp insurance (I understand, that may be a problem!).

If a worker (say, a pressman breaks a finger during a print run) is injured, could the "owner of the job" (that is, the customer that ordered the job running at the time of injury) be liable as well? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Please explain how the customer was negligent in the situation you described. FYI, a customer ordering a product from a printing company does not come close.
