How to change lawyer?


my name is jack i am from New Jersey

last week I got injured in my work place i have up to three different case against employer workers compensation, medical malpractice, for maintenance of that equipment. I hired one lawyer last week but after signing some paper work. he change his statement now we have distrust between us. I am looking for new lawyer. so what is proper procedure for that. how do I change my lawyer? i am willing to pay his fees for his time up to now. thank you for listening

Is this attorney charging you per hour or on contingency? It depends on how he is charging. If he is charging you per hour then pay for his time and let him know you are seeking counsel elsewhere.

However, if he is on contigency it can be trickier. Even if you change, he may try to hold on to a portion of that percentage which would be negotiated between him and the new attorney.

Your best bet is to be honest and tell you feel that the trust has ben broken because he misrepresented himself and that you do not want to continuewith him as your counsel. Then let him offer to let you out of the contract or tell you what fees he wants. Remember- less is more. Let him tell you what works for him before you go offering things.

I have one more question. do I have to find new lawyer first in order to fire old lawyer or i can tell old one to stop and start looking for new one. once again thank you for your response and time.
