Noise LevelsWhat is the name of your state? Washington. I couldn't find a post for this topic so I chose this one. My work place allows people to play extremely loud music even though the volume is well above the regulated decibel levels, the state requires us to wear ear protection because it is an industrial plant with loud machinery**************but yet the loud music people are playing is much louder than the machinery. I have complained to my supervisor several times and he takes care of it but as soon as he leaves the area the music goes up again. He isn't willing to take care of the problem in the long term. What are my rights? I can't work under these conditions. P.S. I contacted State Employment Safety and Health and they came and inspected the problem but as soon as they got there the music went down so my claims were unfounded. |

| I assume its non union? If you are wearing the required hearing protection...you are probably okay. Ask your employer to complete noise monitoring for a full shift. That will capture the music levels elevated after management leaves...and could prompt a rule about the radios. |

| Radio Shack makes a cheap DB meter. Unless these people at work have racks of amplifiers I doubt it's anywhere near as loud as you think. Any sort of music bothers me when I'm working (except elevator music) I simply cannot focus on my work or my safety. (really and truly) I would complain in that direction. And try to borrow some noise canceling headphones to see if that helps. The sharper image has them if there is a sharper image in your town. |
