What is the name of your state? Virginia

Last year my husband was hurt on the job twice (which he longer works at); he followed exactly what his employer told him to do as per their insurance company's instructions.
Last week we got a bill in the mail from the treatment he recieved. (stiches both times)
We called the doc's office and were told that the employer instructed them to send the bills to them, NOT the insurance company. The insurance had also been canceled in December due to non-payment. The injuries were sustained in July and November. So now both companies are refusing to pay this bill. The employer's reason is that it was workers comp, and the insurance says that since they didn't recieve the bill before the policy was cancled, thet are not liable for payment since the reason for canceling was non-payment. The attorney we talked to said "send it to both and see who replies, if neither answer, file on both". Ok........ So who do we really file on?
Thanks,
Christine

It's not at all uncommon for WC bills to be sent directly to the employer. That doesn't mean that anything is "up."

I'm confused as heck as to the rest of your post though. WHICH insurance was cancelled? The worker's comp or the group health? And if the latter, why would that even matter? These were occupational injuries and should have been submitted to the employer's worker's comp carrier or paid outright by the company.

The bills need to be submitted to the employer's WORKER'S COMPENSATION insurance carrier.
