What is the name of your state? IL

Hello out there to anyone reading. My mother is very ill and was very stressed at work it was making her worst. Our question is could she obtain any benefits if she has quit? The job would have paid for short-term disability after that state would have kicked in with the long-term benefits she had. Her HR did not give her advice on this. Is there anything she can do? She's been paying extra for these benefits is she entiled to any of it?

Thank you for reading and the advice given.

There are two issues: (1) what are the particulars of the employer's disability plan, and (2) what date a physican has determined (or would determine) your mother was totally disabled and unable to work.

The fact that your mother quit significantly complicates the matter as she almost certainly quit her job prior to being determined to be "disabled." Your mother is going to have to discuss all this with HR and she's free to file a disability claim but frankly, it doesn't look promising. Your mother very likely would have had to be "actively at work" at the time a doctor certified her as disabled in order to collect.
