Impairment ratings are assessed to compensate you for a permanent functional loss as a result of your injury. Physicians use the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 3rd Edition, to evaulate how much functional loss you have. This percentage then equates to a monetary figure, and is paid out in weeks of benefits.
