What is the name of your state?

I live in CA.

I got a rental/loaner car from a service station, but the car was
stolen, and I didn't have comphensive insurance. The police found the car, but the damage estimate from the service station (8k) was way higher than the estimates (<3k) that I got from another body shop based on the police report and the pictures that I have taken. Now the questions are:

1) how can I know (thus prove) that the service station was not over charging for this?
2) does I has the right to have the car fixed at another body shop? right now, they don't allow me to take the car away since
they are the owner.
3) if the service station just file a claim with their own insurance
company, and let their insurance company go after me. Then is it worth the fight to dispute the claim?
4) if this do go to the court, and I lost, what are some other
consequences beside paying the 8k?

I am already a victim and the body shop is trying to rip me. Please help!

Thanks.
