What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania
Hello, I'm am a divorced father. My son is 15 years old and next year I need to relocate (same state just a few hours from where I live now). I have sole custody of my son and always have, sole legal and physical. His mother willingly singed for me to have custody and has never paid child support to me for him and I haven't even made a motion for it. She has never really been active in his life and not so great to him, so I'm moving for a better life for him and I have a feeling that when I move, then she will want custody even though she never cared about it before and only sees him randomly at her leisure. I've had sole custody of him for years, he's always lived with me. When I mentioned about moving years back, she threatened me with "taking him away" from me even though she never even tried for formal visitation or even partial custody. My ex is extremely controlling and I know will try to do whatever she can to destroy my plans for a better life for him. She does not work and currently lives with her mother. I'm wondering if I did move on the other side of the state, can she come after me? Or would I have to deal with the courts where I moved to or where she lives if she files something? And does anyone know how it works as far this goes when the parent with sole custody moves hours away within the same state? And after we move, my son will be 16 the next month, he says he doesn't want to see his mother, does that hold any weight?
