What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

I received a summons from a law firm representing a large retailer and immediately sent a registered letter to the law firm and made an offer to pay the amount of $1000 of the $1400 I owe. I then filed a copy of that letter as my answer to the summons. I confirmed my letter was received, but the law firm never responded to my offer.

I am now scheduled for arbitration on May 15th. Can I continue to offer to pay the amount due to the law firm or at this point is there no other recourse?

Thank you for any advice. I would like to avoid legal proceedings if possible.

Why didn't you send the $1,000 and then pay the remaining $400 as quickly as possible?
