If you are at a boarding school/residential treatment center what is the age that you can legally leave without anyones consent? Is it 17 (because you are an adult at 17 in Texas) or is it 18?

Yea if I understood all those laws then I would not post asking here. However, I would like to hear something from someone (like someone on this forum) that would actually know what they are talking about.

A REAL friend wouldn't want to interfere with his friend getting the treatment he needs. Even if his friend were 30 or 40 and free to leave anytime.

the age of majority (that is when you become an adult) in Texas is 18 (just like in most other states) and because of this, the kid can;t leave of their own volition until the day of their 18th birthday.

Now, when you say "residential treatment center", it makes me wonder. If the courts are involved, they can't leave until the courts say they can.

A person is not a legal adult until they are 18.

More importantly, how did this person come to be in the residential treatment center?

If it was through the courts, or if the person's parents placed them there, no they cannot leave without permission until they are either 18, or until the court decides.

If this person admitted themself, without any court action, and without parents' assistance, it MIGHT be possible for them to leave. However, it will also come down to if the Dr feels they are stable enough to be discharged.
