Uhh....yeah it is. Quite simple in fact. Would you condone YOUR CHILD participating in those....activities?
Have you ever saw AK-47 bullets flying above your head? Because I do, and it's not pleasant.

There is a HUGE Difference between "naked baby" pics--of which I have several of LittleCSO--first bath, toddler swimming, etc... and PORN.
So I wanted to clarify this issue.

It's the sexual exploitation of children. Regardless of whether or not any violence is involved ot there is a potential for violence, it is illegal.
I talked about the customer. There is a difference between dealing with a 75 years old man and a 27 yo convicted felon 6.5 feet 250 lb.

And it's that "As long as no one I know directly who is getting hurt, it okay by me" attitude that alows this industry to fluorish. All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing. After all, "It's not hurting me."
I'ts not the same. I can not demand from people to endanger them self for me, unless they are getting money for it. And dealing with dangerous people can be vary harmful.

Have you considered that someone may be baiting you?
A What Would You Do type scenario. While the police cannot perform such entrapment, a citizen can.

Why would somebody have such files, give them such alarming names and then hand over the computer to anyone?

Because criminals are morons.

I wish some of the people here would understand this. It seems like many of them live in a sheltered world where nothing they do ever comes back to harm them.

I want to stop this guy, I want to stop everyone from doing this kind of stuff.

I am leaning towards calling the police. The more I think about it the less likely it is that he's going to come after me. BUT... I don't know how I could live with myself if he turns out to be a nut and hurts my family.

I think the guy just doesn't know anything about computers and it didn't occur to him that I might see the files while backing the data up.

Or, maybe he's just a complete idiot and doesn't even know the files are illegal.

Tell ya what. PM me the guys info and I will report it to the Feds. You will not be involved. I will.

That goes back to a question I asked before that wasn't answered. If it is reported anonymously, will anything be done? If it isn't going to accomplish anything what's the point? I can do it anonymously.

So, will it do anything? If the police have his name and number and are told that 'someone' saw child pornography will they actually do anything about it?

People that prey on children are cowards drawn to the vulnerable.
And "just downloading" will escalate to live-action, if it hasn't already.

You are not in danger. There are no AK47S involved. It is beyond unlikely.

What you do have is a child predator. Children are currently being victimized because of him and will continue to be.

Just send me the name and I will deal with it. K?

Which means that he has not been convicted = MORE DANGER to children.
Exactly. This means he needs to be.
They would sieze his computer. The evidence is right there. Just possesing and downloading it is illegal.

Maybe he's a teacher, a camp counselor, a youth pastor or runs a program for troubled youth.

I have friends in the FBI. I have ZERO issue giving the info to him. I wish OP would just pass it on to me and I WILL BE THE reporter. NOT AN ISSUE.

You're willing to chance your family's well-being on the possibility that you'll go to jail for failure to report a crime?
What law would he be charged with? Please be specific.

Oh wow secondhand hearsay. I'm sure the FBI will jump right on that. That's totally enough to get a warrant. You go Internet Crusader Person.

The anonymous "tip line" is not sufficient probable cause nor is a report from somebody who said they read something on a forum that said somebody had child pornography. Any half decent lawyer would have that suppressed immediately. The police need ISP logs, file server logs, etc. to get a warrant, not secondhand rumors.
