What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

I have a question,
I got a DUI back in 2007, my license was revoked for 5 years. I have completed and paid all court appointed fines, community service, probation, drug and alcohol evaluations, AA meeting, victims panel, etc. You name it, I've done it. It's all completed and court satisfied.
So now I'm just waiting until my 5 year revocation is up, which is in Feb. of 2012.
My question is, I'm thinking of moving from IL to Colorado, what do I do about my license? Do I have to wait until 2012 to have it all cleared up and then move? Am I stuck in IL? Or can I move to CO, and apply for a new license there. But do I still have to wait until 2012?
What are the laws for this kind of situation?

Was this your first DUI? i've never heard of five year suspension. Five year probation, yes.

Once your license is suspended in one state, it's suspended in all states. However, things do fall through the cracks and some states haven't followed through on the DMV side of things.

Pull out your court order of conviction, and see if you are prohibited from leaving the state. Were you under 18 at the time of conviction? Is there a probation officer involved?

This is my 2nd DUI. My 1st was back in 1993. I had my license revoked for 5 years then as well.
No, I am not under 18.
I had 2 years probation, where I had to report to an officer every month.
That is completed.
I don't believe I'm prohibited from leaving the state. I told my PO that I had to travel for work, and she didn't have any problem with it.

Nobody will issue you a license if you're still under suspension. You're free to move, but before driving again you will have to wait out the suspension, and satisfy the reinstatement requirements in Illinois. Did your PO say that you were OK to move your residence or just travel? Those are different concepts. Usually however, if you are in good standing, that is routinely approved.

If you are NOT under court supervision / probation / or an active sentence, then you are free to move out of state.

You cannot legally apply for a license in any state until your revocation is lifted in 2012.

If you have a hardship license in Illinois, you would most likely have to give that up in CO as it would not transfer, and be a non-driver until 2012 when your reinstatement was valid.

Once your suspension is lufed, you may file for DL in whatever state you reside. You'll end up also paying a reinstatement fee.

His license isn't suspended. It's REVOKED. He must wait out the five years and then pay the reinstatement fee in Illinois. Only after that can he get a license elsewhere.

The point about the restricted license is a good one.

I do not believe you need to be physically present in Illinois to clear it. They'll gladly take your $500 fee via the mail or over the phone with a credit card.

DUI/License question UPDATE

Here's my update.....

I'm getting ready to move to Texas in 3 weeks from Illinois.
I'm not eligible to get my license reinstated until Feb 2012.
What are my next steps?

Do I have to notify Illinois that I'm moving?
Will they send me a letter notifying me about my reinstatement?
Will I have to return back to Illinois to have a reinstatement hearing?
Or do I just wait till next year and apply for a new Texas license?

As you can see, I'm a little lost on what to do at this point.
It's been a long 5 years!

As of 2-25-12, my Illinois DL was eligible for reinstatement.
I now live in Texas and have been here for a year.
I have not received anything from the State of Illinois about my reinstatement.
What should I do?
Try to contact Illinois about reinstatement?
Try to get a Texas DL?

You need to contact the Illinois DMV and figure out what you have to do to reinstate there. You can try to get a Texas DL, but I would suspect you are still blocked until you pay the $500 reinstatement to Illinois.

Update

I have now found out that I have to fill out and send to the SOS of Illinois a "Non-Resident/Out-of-State Petitioner Hearing Application".
The form is pretty cut and dry. You have to list your alcohol related arrests and all the info that goes along.
You also have to explain why the SOS should give you your license back.
I expected all of this.
What I did not expect is the 3 or more letters/forms from individuals who have regular and frequent contact with.
This is a little hard to do. Not only that I have been in TX for just 1 year and don't know that many people, but also the people I do know, don't know about the DUI, and I'd like to keep it that way.
Any suggestions?
The forms have the normal questions....What is your relationship to the petitioner? How long have you known the petitioner? Lifestyle, alcohol use, etc.
They also ask for the name, the Illinois DL (which I assume is not applicable since I live in TX now), signature, date, and address.
I'm in sort of a pickle here.
How do I get these completed without anyone knowing I made this huge mistake?
