Can I use familiar names of University Graduates in the Novel I propose writing as creative non-fiction?
In what U.S. state do you reside, josephljtwrk?

As an author, you have copyright protection for your work.

Can you use familiar names? Possibly. It depends on the names, the use, and the facts.

Is a Disclaimer appropriate for some Authors?

I live in California and I plan to use a disclaimer that suggest...
The information in this book reflects the writer's experiences and is not intended to replace public opinion. It is not the intent of the author to prescribe nor suggest any opinion that I can not foretell in an extraordinary well fashion. But not only is my Christian faith the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen; as a alumni graduate we all can depict me above earnest devotion.

A disclaimer will not protect your work from a lawsuit, although it can be used to potentially mitigate any damages awarded in a lawsuit, in the event you are sued and lose the suit.

If you intend to release your book in the U.S., I suggest that any disclaimer you do use is written in clear English. Having your work reviewed by an editor/publishing professional in advance of publication would be wise and is advised.
