What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? arkansas

My husband wore a certain brand of contacts for several years. He rotated between three brands of solution. He used one major brand of solution for about 6 months straight. Out of nowhere he started losing vision in both eyes (one worse than the other). After many weeks of doctors visits, missed work, and lots of mental anguish (hes only 28!) a specialist finally determined that the brand of contacts and brand of solution are not meant to be used together, and caused a chemical buildup. It caused the temporary blindness, conjunctivitis, and permanent scarring. The doctor said theres really no definite answer if the blindness could come back. Its very stressful not knowing if you will be able to see in the morning when you wake up. Is there any kind of suit we could file against the contact and solution companies for not having proper warnings on their products? Our insurance did not pay for the doctors visits and he missed quite a bit of work.

I suggest your husband speak with an attorney in your area. If there were no warnings with either the contacts or on the contact lens solution then your husband could have a cause of action worth pursuing. This would be especially so if the problem your husband is experiencing is a problem that has been reported by others.

Good luck.

We have tried contacting lawyers that deal with personal injury. I have contacted three and nobody seems interested in taking it (they all want 18 wheeler accidents and oilfield accidents). Is there a different type of lawyer I should be pursuing?

Try a medical malpractice attorney.

But if the case doesn't seem viable, you're likely out of luck.

While personal injury attorneys might handle this type of claim, you may have more success looking for an attorney who handles product liability cases.

There was a class action suit filed years ago against a manufacturer of contact lens solution that was contaminated with bacteria, which led to its recall, and I know there are continuing problems with those "decorative" contact lenses (that give you tiger eyes, red eyes, white eyes, etc), but I am not seeing any current recall on contacts or lens solutions or any widespread problems reported of the type your husband is experiencing. But, admittedly, my search was a brief one.

Because of the type of problem your husband is having, though (and if the doctors he has seen do not think it is an allergy-related or similar problem that is his alone), seeing an attorney, who can review the products to tell you if he believes they are mislabeled or defective and can support a legal action, is a good first step to take.

Good luck.

A quick search of his symptoms and the brands (which I don't want to put on here) came up with several different forums of complaints the same specific brand of contacts and they all said they used the same solution. Nobodys doctor had been able to determine that their symptoms had been caused by the chemical toxicity at the time they were complaining.

THANK YOU for not naming the brands on this forum (and I hope no one on the forums you checked out are posting defamatory comments about the brands, because this could lead to lawsuits filed against them).

If your husband wants to print off what you located and head off to an attorney who is willing to look it all over, and who will personally examine more fully the medical complaints your husband has and what the doctors have reported about his condition, and who can personally check out the products in question, then you can determine better if there is a suit worth pursuing.

Good luck.
