My sister-in-law started dating this guy about a couple of years ago when they first met. They've been dating for a while until things got rough in the relationship because of him. Going back on the subject, he was still close and wanted to be friends with her and was going through a lot. He used to serve in the Navy and gets benefits through the VA still to this day. He was going through financial trouble and more by which my wife and I agreed to let him stay until he got back on his feet. Well anyways, he started asking my sister-in-law and me about getting payday loans and we both didn't agree with it but he insisted on paying us back and showed us check stubs he had before for paying people off which was a lot of money and gave proof. After a while of getting loans, he kept saying that he was going to pay us back and that he had money for us but every time the day would come to pay us back, he would make excuses saying that he went to the hospital and wasn't feeling good or that he got caught up with some bad people. This has been going on for a couple of months now.
He owes my sister-in-law and me about $20,000 each which includes our personal money to pay off all these loans and more. We currently live in Texas right now and are going through paycheck to paycheck trying to pay off bills along with loans that he got us into. There is no written agreement unfortunately but we do have proof that he admitted he got us into the situation and he verbally agreed to pay us back the money as well. Also, he wrote both of us a blank check each for $20,000 but on my check he didn't write his name and on my sister-in-law's check, he wrote everything but only in pencil. One last thing, on his life insurance policy, he had the audacity to put me as his beneficiary when he passes away which is $50,000 on his life policy. I never intended him to put me on his policy but he did anyway to think only when he passes away I'll get the money. I will never in my life would do that and would give the money towards his family instead. We're just tired of his games and wanted to know what should we do?
(Update) *: We have proof of phone recordings, text messages, and even photos of him with money that he'll give to us to pay off these loans. There is a lot of evidence to prove for the both of us.
Thank you.
