A friend of mine was arrested on an aggravated driving , open container and dwi. the blood alcohol was 1.6 I was immediately concerned and before work on e day I printed her booking photo with her inmate id , it did not have charges simply her photo with the id the purpose was to remember the info prior to mailing the letter . after mailing the letter I threw it in my book bag and went to work . several people inadvertently saw it , I was informed initially about her arrest from a supervisor , who had apparently informed other people prior to my knowledge . one person saw it and said thats not right . I attempted to explain it was used for me to mail her a letter and nothing more . I immediately shredded the letter . and she may pursue a lawsuit against me for def of char. I never defamed her I actually discussed with the people who came to me how we could get bail for her or get her out I also sent the letter stating how sorry I was and how we would do anything we could to help her . does she have a case since it was used for good intentions and there was no charge info there simply her photo and id?

Why did you need her mug-shot and inmate i.d. to mail a letter...was she still in jail? Has she stated that she was going to sue for Defamation of Character? Her arrest is a matter of public record...just showing people her mug-shot and list of charges is not defamation. She can still sue...but you have an affirmative defense presuming you did not say anything untrue...ie..."while driving crazy drunk she hit and killed a kid".

no I just was getting ready for work and it was just quicker to print it to have the number so I could write it on the envelope to mail it her ID number and everything and that actually copy and pasted the address of the jail on there so when I went to the post office to get the envelope I took that piece of paper I wrote it down off that piece of paper then when I get back in the car I threw it in my bag and forgot to take it out I said nothing untrue I didn't even know her charges at the time I just simply knew she'd been arrested apparently the whole facility had known before me she said that I aired her dirty laundry I don't think I did because of the fact it was just a photo she's supposed to fired but because of the arrest not because of my pic I printed

Here's the thing: truth is the ultimate defense to libel, slander, or defamation. Someone seeing her mug shot in your bag is not defamatory.

And just a side note: people threaten to sue all the time. Actually doing so is a different matter. Stop apologizing, stop discussing it with ANYONE, and it will die down on its own.

Your "friend" has a drinking problem.

Your "friend" needs to deal with the consequences of her drinking problem, first and foremost, namely the charges against her.

Assuming that the source of "booking photo" was a publicly available source, tell her to pound sand.

I was more polite the first time I posted, but did not appreciate being deleted, so I'm going to be more blunt.

This is not a friend.
This is not a healthy person to be around.
STOP APOLOGIZING to this nasty person who is so thoughtless that she drives after drinking, not caring who she endangers.

From where did you get the booking photo and inmate identification number? You speak of the "facilty" already knowing about the incarceration. What is the "facility?"

When you "report" a post, it temporarily disappears from view until a moderator can review it. It is not easy to inadvertently do this.
