What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA

I was fired because my wife forwarded a letter to my corporate office. They thought she wrote it, but it was from a public website.

My wife innocently forwarded a public blog letter from a website called complaintsboard.com. This blog pertained to the company I worked for. Well I was fired immediately because it had negative things about my boss in it and he thought I wrote it. My boss didnt even have the curtousy to fire me himself he made the office staff do it. He also told her if she didnt do it he would fire her as well. Although I did not write the letter nor did my wife, what it detailed was the honest truth. Do I have any stand against this companyWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

It is not illegal to fire you because your meddlesome wife angered your boss.

File for unemployment while you look for a new job.

Your employer is free to fire you because of what your wife did. You don't mention who she forwarded it to but apparently it was fairly widely disseminated after that or else it wouldn't have come to the boss's attention.

Not such an innocent thing for your wife to do - you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Even though my wife angered my boss, he then proceeded to tell me the reason for letting me go is because I make too much money. The blog my wife found was a public complaint, which there were 100's of them, but this one in particular was directed at the branch I worked at. When she forwarded it to my own personal email, it also was forwarded to corporate branch.

I guess sometimes people truly dont want to read and believe they are not as great as they think they are. Just add a little bit of additional info: This boss was moved from one branch office to another due to his irrational behavior. ie: bringing a gun to work and threatning staff. For some reason this company just keeps moving him around from branch to branch.

Your firing was perfectly legal. Brush up your resume, file for UI benefits and keep your wife in line.

Ok - but your wife helping spreading the negative comments around didn't do the company any good - or you either.

In any event, your termination was legal. File for unemployment benefits and start looking for a new job.

Thank you for your words. I will find another job and in some way I believe this was a blessing in disguise. Does it suck, yes ! Am I mad at my wife, no ! Are the complaints posted on this public website true, YES!

And I am sorry for any confusion by posting under a name that would be miscontrued as a woman. I really didnt want to register on another website when my friend already had an account with this site. Apologies for any confusion. Thanks for all your advice and god bless you all.

What did the blog post say about your supervisor and/or the company? Who wrote the post? Did other employees comment about the original blog post online?

The answers to these questions could factor into whether the original post and any subsequent related comments possibly constituted protected discussions about workplace conditions.

With that said, even assuming arguendo that the post and the related discussions were protected, why would your wife think it was a good idea to forward a copy to management in a manner in which it could be traced to back to you?

Maybe so, but she is a great person with a kind and loving heart. I truly understand how all of this happened. She feels just horrible and has written a letter of apology to my boss. For better or for worse.

The post was a site called ripoffreports.com. It was written by a customer. I was a service technician for a water proofing company. We get tons of angry customers and this site had a long list of complaints from customers who were not being treated kindly by the office personel, included in this one particular complaint was an issue involving my boss. My wife forwarded this to my personal email at home and it was also copied and emailed to the mail email address of my former company.
