It turns out it's Children's Benefits and she's not sure if she still has the paper copy.
I didn't know there was a difference between Child Support and Children's Benefits.
I don't know what's going on with this forum software. A couple of my comments have disappeared.
She gets SSI and it is Children's Benefits as it turns out.
She is not garnished and has to pay it at an office.

The money does not come out of her social security payments. She has to take it to an office and pay it herself. I think it's SSI. I'll find out for sure.
She's only looking to be relieved from payments going forward.

I should add that she doesn't have a computer and is not very computer literate which is why I am the one asking for this advice.
I am asking for a female friend who lost custody of her child and was at the time paying 25% of her total social security income to the couple who have since legally adopted the child. How she, and not the father came to this obligation is beyond the scope of this dialog please.
