It might be...but that would depend. I would think that if you were wanted for international child porn....they could, if they knew who you were, send a warrant. For one image...likely not. But to be sure...CALL. A. Lawyer. K?
Thank you. I know nothing of the legal system in the United States or Canada with regard to these matters so thank you for the advice. That's all I wanted to know. Since I am not hard to find but have heard nothing in three years, it is probably ok.

Unlike this...

"Oh good LORD - stay in Canada - we don't need you here! "

you gave me a polite answer. Thank you for that.

Is it safe for me to visit the United States?
Probably, but no one can give you 100% reassurance on that. You were not a U.S. citizen at the time and you were not located in the U.S. at that time either. Thus, I’m not seeing anything here that obviously has a U.S. connection and there has to be some U.S. connection for the government to prosecute you. Note that under federal law if there was just one child porn image downloaded inadvertently and you deleted it immediately that would give you a defense a federal charge of downloading child porn anyway. Without more information, it is impossible to know what, if any, state law might have been violated. Just given what you have said here you are unlikley to be a target of a child porn prosecution in the U.S. Note that if a warrant for that had been issued and given that that authorities would know you are outside the U.S., I would have expected that the U.S. to ask Canada or HK to arrest you for extradition to the U.S. The U.S. would not have simply waited for you to come here, which might never happen.

Thank you. This is what I thought, since nobody in Canada or China has ever contacted me. The U.S. connection is that the Microsoft servers are located in the United States and I was dealing with an American company located in Washington State. I know how serious these kinds of charges are and how they can destroy a life so I have been wondering for a while about this. I read that Microsoft had reported someone for uploading child porn images onto their servers but he was using it to distribute as he emailed it out from their sites and they found images on his home computer. I didn't access the images at all on Microsoft's servers and I don't have any images on my computer at all so I was not that worried but am still slightly unsure . When I get back to Canada, I will ask a lawyer and give them more details. Thank you for the advice.
