What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Mass. I bought a house 7 months ago and my then girlfriend and her kids moved in with me and my kids. Well things didnt work out and now I want her to leave. She is not on the deed or the motgage. I want to make sure I dont do anything illegal. What are my steps in getting her out. I know I just cant change the locks.. Help!!!

You need to evict her per the rules in your state.

It will generally take at least a month.

No, she's not entitled to any money. If she doesn't move out at the end of the 30 days, you can consider hiring a lawyer for the court part of the process. However, if she will agree to move out without incident if you offer her a couple hundred bucks, that might be worth considering. It's called "cash for keys" and it happens quite often. But if you go that way, GET IT IN WRITING. And don't give her the check until she has moved all her stuff out and is handing you the keys.

Yes I offered to give her the first and last month rent on a new place up to a $1500 rent. I will make sure she signs an agreement to leave. If she wont sign it you suggest I give her a written 30 dAYS notice?

You sound like a good guy and some women will take advatage of that. Give her the standard 30 days.

If giving her some money will keep him from having to take her to court to get her out of the house, that may be worth it to OP. A lawyer for eviction court will cost at least that much. It's his call to make.

Yea but why get ripped off in the process. No judge will make her stay. Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard. Think about it... If you give her money she will come back for more.
I guess you could also put honey on your anus and let the bees sting you

There's no need to be crass. And it's still his call to make. We just give the options. No, a judge won't let her stay forever, but evictions are time consuming and cost money. The time that it takes to go to court and get the eviction ordered, then they give her more time to move after that, and then more time if a sheriff's removal is needed....like I said, it's OP's decision to weigh his options and make the best choice for him.
