  Well hopefully you're not "in a rush" now. You need to go file a police report as soon as possible. It wouldn't have taken long to get a picture of the person's license and insurance card. Do you even remember what the driver looked like?

  That's a bit harsh. OP didn't say what needed to be replaced (compressor, condenser, etc) but it was probably covered under warranty and things do go bad early on occasion. I don't think "junker" is a good way to describe a truck that needs an AC repair.
