     i think i would call the brokerage company. a transfer to a revocable grantor trust does not trigger a change in basis.

     p.s. it is my opinion that most trusts off the net are fine for use, if the intention of the grantor is to fully distribute the trust assets upon death. i look at these sorts of trusts as glorified wills. their only real purpose is to avoid probate. most on-line trusts do this fine and dandy...

     sounds good. btw, i did not mean to imply that my trust docs were simply forms off the net. i did my own research, and formulated my own trusts. i guess it is up to interpretation as to how good they are - LOL. of course, i think they are great !!

      one last point - have you actually called the stock fund about the w9 form ? just because they sent one to you as part of "the package" does not necessarily mean that you need to fill it out. it may be there for the sole purpose of being filled out ONLY if the tax id number is being changed.

      perhaps we could think about it in this way. let's say there is no new w9 filled out. the stock fund would send the 1099 to the social security number that it already has on file, which would be the social that you are still using.

      when i said nothing usually needs to be done - i was of course talking about the social security numbers, not the re-titling of the asset to put another way, the transfer of the asset to the trust does not usually trigger any change to the tax id if you are married and filing a joint return...

      your biggest job is to find someone who knows enough about trusts, that the correct language is placed in the trust so the trustee can safely and effectively manage the trust for the beneficiaries. i dont think this site allows any referrals, not that i have any.
