Not really. Getting paid for a good or service is a commercial activity. And the neighbors don't have to actually win the suit to cost you money. If you are renting through AirBnB then it is certainly a commercial activity.
Why does Mass make it so hard to buy a car there? Seems that the car dealers would have lobbied the legislature long ago for some method to sell a car and not make the buyer an instant criminal should they wish to simply drive it home.
#1 would be worse with a false plate on the car. Make sure you have proof of insurance and drive home. Assuming you don't have a MA driver's license while you might get pulled over you likely won't be ticketed.
#2 is just silly.
If you are really concerned you could have the car shipped to you.
If he files a claim for damage that is less than his deductible the insurance company isn't going to pay anything and there are better ways to get the deductible back that don't make a mark on his insurance history.

I'd bet that you at the very worse could get a credit equal to the out of pocket cost from Lowes. You just bought a new house. You know you would use it.
