What is the name of your state? Massachusetts
I was forced into resigning from my fire service job due to allegations of personal drug use on duty. An on-duty police officer stated that he smelled what seemed to him to be marijuana. I was not, nor would I even attempt to use drugs or any mind altering substance while on duty. What I do in my persoanl time isn't any of their business. The terms were basically outlined as, either risk an investigation into the allegation, which would cost myself a huge chunk of my public servant salary or to resign from my position. There is no evidence that supports the officer's case that I was smoking that morning. However, I do use pot during my off-duty cycles. Granted, it's illegal and if I were tested, I would not pass. That's another reason why I chose to resign. I now have two members of the department commenting everywhere about me getting caught smoking pot in the office. The word is I was "fired for smoking pot". I resigned due to allegations of drug use. Nothing was ever proven and I have no idea what the officer smelled-but it certainly wasn't what he thought it was. I believe that I was strongarmed into resigning due to other political and legal troubles for the department. I also believe that there is serious defamation of character-one EMT slandering me up one side and down the other, with that EMT finding out through my fire chief. I was supposed to stay between the Board of Fire Engineers and not to go further than that. Anyone think I have something here, or will it all go "up in smoke"?
