What is the name of your state? Michigan

Hello,

I am a Canadian Citzen that wishes to move to the United States (Michigan) in a Couple months. the reason is that I want to be able to work in the United states but yet I have no College experence but I do have a High School Diapoma. I am 17 years old Male (18 in December) and I have a Girlfriend that lives in Michigan that I wish to live with (her parents), I also want to attend a POST GRAD School (Broadcasting School) in Fall 2006.

I spoke with the Immirgation offices and they said that I have to get a "Suporter" from an Employee, I don't quite understand.

So My queston is, What kinda Visa should I apply for? Can I move right away when applying? do I have to travel somewhere in my own country (Canada) to apply for the visa? (The nearest American Embarssy is in Toronto that is 4-7 Hours away in drive..in other words too far) Do I have the Freedom on where I want to live in the United States?

Thank you so much for your time.

You will not be eligible for any type of employment-based visa if you do not yet have a bachelor's degree equivalent from a college or university. If you want to attend school in the US, you would need to get admitted to that school and have the school prepare documentation for you to apply for a student visa at the nearest US COnsulate in Canada so that you can enter the US with the purpose of studying at that school.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or how I can be of further assistance to you in this matter.

The blunt answer to your last question is: No. Did you know that I (a US citizen) do not have the freedom to live where I want in Canada? Even tho we are close neighbors, we are foreign countries to each other.

You also generally may not just apply for a visa; you need a US citizen who is a close relative or a US school or company ask for permission for you to be able to come over. For someone your age, generally a student visa is a good idea. You will be limited as to how much you can work tho, and have to prove that you have the funds to pay for school and support yourself in the US.
