a friend of mine will be getting busted in WI for stealing from they're place of employment. the retail value of the merchandise will probably total $200,000 over the course of the last 5 years. they sold what they stole and probably himself made less than $100,000, again over the course of 5 years. they're under 25, clean record, and have a family lawyer.

embezzlement right?
is this a federal crime?
will they go to prison? what is it dependent on?
what will they possibly owe in retribution?
does the statute of limitations go back 5 years? how long?

i've been trying to find these answers somewhere, but its hard to look on the net for this stuff.

thanks

Woman sentenced for embezzlement
Port Washington - A Town of Grafton woman was sentenced Friday to 16 months in prison for embezzling $190,000 from a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee alumni group to which she belonged.

Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Tom R. Wolfgram also ordered that Sana Jennings-Fossum be placed under extended supervision when she leaves prison and serve 10 years of probation. The terms include that she not be employed as an accountant or hold a position with fiduciary responsibilities.

Jennings-Fossum, 42, had pleaded guilty to four counts of embezzling money that she used to support her home-based Amway business selling cleaning supplies.

So you're saying they're probably going to get prison time?
This was stealing from a retail store and reselling the items.

No I am not saying anything, just posting a similar situation, the money amounts are the around the same.

One thing though, a family lawyer is not going to cut it. A lawyer who knows his/her way around the embezzelment law is the way to go.
