What is the name of your state? Arizona - You are a paid employee of a company. You take photographs while on the job. You are using your own personal camera and your film. Who owns the photos and negatives? Who has the rights to them?

Good argument.
1) Were you paid (on the clock) when the pictures were taken??
2) Who paid for the film??
3) Who paid for the developing and prints??
4) Was the photo subject work related or at work location??

And the most important question of all.... are you willing to lose your job over this petty issue of who owns the film??

Keep a set of prints and give a set (and the negatives) to the employer.
