Use of the stage name alone will provide some trademark protections in the U.S. -- whether it will elsewhere will depend on the laws of the various countries.

If you want more protection, you could register your stage name as a trademark, go to www.uspto.gov for more info. You will also need to register a trademark in each country in which you want protection, but this can be done from the U.S. via the Madrid Protocols. There will be info on this as well at www.uspto.gov. After reading up on trademarks, you might want to have a lawyer help you draft and file the necessary paperwork.

If you plan to every act on stage as a professional, act or write in movies or tv, or make a recording to be sold, you will have to register your stage name with a number of agencies. These include the Screen Actors Guild, Writer's Guild of America or The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. They all have websites that explain the process.
