What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Minnesota

My daughter recently had her throat cut by a 10 year old neighbor boy. It is about an inch long. He told her to lay down and close her eyes and he would get her some ice cream. While she had her eyes closed he took out a knife and cut her.
I am wondering is this considered attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon or what? What is the law in regards to minors in Minnesota? How can I have him prosecuted to the fullest extent? I dont want this taken lightly. Should I get a lawyer?

Oh I didn't mention that I did call the police. An officer came out to my house and we are also going down to the police station this morning at 9am. She is 5 years old. They want her to talk to an officer thats not in uniform and have some dolls there for her to feel more comfortable to open up and answer questions. You see at first she refused to tell anyone what happened and who did it. She tried telling me she fell on a stick and tried telling her dad she fell on a high heel. The boy told her he would kill her if she told anyone what he did.
I guess the police will give me more information about what will happen this morning.

Leave everything to the police. The police will decide what charges to press (rather, the DA will), and it will go from there. YOU will not be pressing charges or choosing which charges stick. Let the police do their work, and if necessary, consider some sort of counseling for your daughter to help her through what potentially could be a scarring situation. I am sure that the officers can provide some phone numbers that might be helpful in that regard.

We met with the police officer this morning. He questioned my daughter in a room without me present. He also went to the boys home and spoke with the mother. The officer said he will interview the boy on Tuesday because they supposedly had a death in the family. The officer told me not to have any contact with the family. He said after his interview with the boy he will send my case to the district attorney. So what does this mean? The district attorney will decide what they are going to do and call me?

Yes, the DA will look at all the info the officer can provide, and from there will decide whether or not charges will be pressed.
