Hi,
I have a friend in the state of Virginia who recently found out this his daughter is pregnant by a man that is 23 years old. His daughter is very rebellious and refuses to give him any information about the 23 year old guy. When my friend contacted the police in the area where his daughter lives, they told him that the age of consent was 18, but because his daughter was 15, the 23 year old could only be charged with a class 1 misdemeanor (which was not statutory rape, it was something like indecent liberties with a minor). This is the thing that gets me. They will not allow my friend (the father of this child) to press charges against this guy or help him find out who the guy is. They told him that his daughter has to come in to the police station and press charges herself. Being that his daughter is so stubborn, he's feels that it is unlikely that his daughter will talk. My friend and I both feel like this is unfair. Is there anything as a parent that he can do? He has the 23 year old cell phone number (but no name) and he thinks that 23 yr old may be in the Navy. Please provide any advice that you can?
