my daughter is 16. i am the registered owner of her car. if she injures someone in an accident, beyond what insurance compensates, if they decide to sue, can they sue my boyfreind, who we live with? he has no legal responsibilty to her and we do not share any assets or debts.

My response:

No, a "boyfriend" has no responsibility or liability in such a situation.

However, her responsibility, and yours (hers mostly), for excess liability is another matter altogether. If you have fears like this already, then it's time to obtain more coverage - - especially for a 16 year old.

Just think . . . what if she wipes out the Smith family of 6 in an intersection ? Not a pretty thought.
