What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? SC

I think it is not legal for a 17yo to work in a bar in SC but I can't find the law that says so. I looked at the page for the SC legisature under the laws but I can't find anything. I dont know if he is getting payed but he is on the stage playing guitar. If I dont want him to but his mother says its okay can she give him permission. If there is a law I want to show the bar owner so he wont let him do it no more.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I don't think there's any rule. You must be 21 to be a bartender in SC and 18 to serve alcohol on opened containers (no age limit to sell sealed containers). But I don't believe there's an age limit to work in a bar.

In general, the policy is that you must be 21 to enter a bar unless you're accompanied by a parent or guardian who is over 21. But there seems to be a great deal of discretion and some locations allow 18 year olds to enter a bar without a parent (but not to drink).

I think you're going about it the wrong way.

1. If you are convinced that a crime has been committed, call the police.
or:
2. Talk to the bar owner. I can guarantee that he knows the law in his state.

But I'm just curious. Why do you think it's harmful for the kid to have a job playing guitar in a bar? If he's drinking, you clearly have grounds to put a stop to it. But I don't see how it's doing any harm for him to play guitar in a bar.

The first thing I want to do was talk to the owner or the bartender but I can't even find out what bar it is. I'm not even sure which police or sherriff to call because it could be in one of three counties maybe even more. All I know is it's a little rundown place out in the country. I guess any of them can tell me what the law is and then I can take it from there. But another thing is I didn't find out about this until he posted pictures on his facebook and that was two days after it happened. He'll probbably post pictures again but probbably not be until after. If he says which bar it is I guess the next weekend I can call that sherriff and tell them a 17yo might be playing in such and such bar right now. His mother thinks its legal and I wanted to be able to show her the law that says its not. If she knew it wasn't I think she won't let him do it no more.

Even knowing which law says its okay for a parent or gaurdian to take him would help because it was an adult friend that took him a man that's in the band. Does that count or does it have to be a parent or someone who has the legal rights of a parent? Because his mother was not there.

I don't think a honkey tonk kind of roadhouse out in the boonies is a good place for a 17 year old. If its legal and I don't want him to do it but his mother does then I guess she has the right to let him do it but if its against the law than the law is the law. Im just hoping the law is on my side.

police arent lawyers. they can only tell you the polce point of view.

So what. Its good for him to be out making money, especially doing something he loves. If he is not drinking, and has moms permission, there is no law against / or for it, thereby making it legal.

well, there is no such law. The law is under 21 cant drink. unless you can prove he's drinking, let him play in the bar. you never know what it can lead to.

Adult supervision, can be any adult trused with the well being of the child.
