I met a boy the week before his 22nd birthday . I am only 17. Is it illegal to date him. ?

Going out to the movies or to dinner is not a crime unless he keeps you out after curfew or sneaks you out against the wishes of your parents. Having sex is not generally a crime unless he is in a superior position to you (teacher, boss, guardian, etc.) or, as before, you do so by aiding or encouraging her to disobey her parents.

It is unlikely that this 22 year old (an adult) is engaging you (a minor) because you are his intellectual equal. You are still at the age where the attraction is largely biological and often not substantial, so consider that as you choose to "date" him and understand that his attraction to you is more likely hormones than a meeting of the minds.

This is generally a bad idea for a host of reasons.

To reiterate:
- Dating him is not a crime
- Even having sex with him is not a crime
- Exception is that if he is in a position of authority over her, having sex might be a crime
- Regardless of whether it's a crime, if the parents tell him to stay away, he has to stay away.
- He can not actively encourage her to disobey her parents' wishes.
