19 year old in accident in nj

My 19 year old son was in an accident. He was the driver of someone else's car (she was in the car and gave permission) there were 5 passangers. It was 2am in the morning and they hit a telephone pole. 3 passangers are injured. He recieved tickets for dwi, reckless driving, and assault with a vehicle. He passed the sobriety test but there is 0 tolerance for alcohol under 21 in the state of nj. The car did have car insurance he does not have a car or car insurance in his name. will the owner of the car have to haver their insurance company cover the medical bills for the injured people in the car.

This is NJ. The passengers would have to have serious and permanent injury in order to sue. If the owner was insured and gave him permission to drive, then he was NOT uninsured. If YOU have auto insurance, it will most likely be YOUR PIP coverage that covers his medical bills...if you nor any member of your household has auto insurance, then the owner's PIP will cover him. The passengers will use their own auto insurance, or that of a member of their household, for their medical bills. Again, if there is no other coverage available to them, the owner's PIP will step in.
