1st time shoplifting

I was arrested for shoplifting of less than $300 accessory at Nordstrom Rack. It was video taped by Nordstrom. I need to appeal in Court. What is it going to be like in court? Is there anyway it could be taken out of my record? Will it affect my career? Will new employers find out when i look for a new job? What is a background check when I apply for new job?
