What is the name of your state? VA
This is kind of a follow-up post I had a few weeks ago. To make a long story short, in February 2006, Genesis Financial sent me a debt collection from a 1999 debt I "had incurred" with Excel Telecommunications. I paid the debt off in full and did receive a paid in full letter. In February or March 2007 timeframe I plan on disputing this with the credit bureaus to see if it will be dropped from my credit report. Now it is October and for the last 3 Sundays in a row at exactly 10:16 AM, I receive phonecalls from NCO Financial. When I answer the phone, it is a recording that says please call Kelly at NCO Financial, number.... concerning a debt with Genesis Financial. Since it is a recording, they leave the number so fast that I am not close to a pen/paper to write it down. My question is this. Are NCO and Genesis the "same" people that work the same issues? How do I tell NCO to quit calling me since the situation has been paid in full, since it is always a recording and never a person? I reported them to the "do-not-call" registry, but it has not worked. Thanks for any responses.

The "do not call" registry is for telemarketers, not debt collectors.

Put a pad and pen next to your phone so you can get the number the next time the collector calls. Then you can request their address and mail them a cease and desist letter including a copy of your paid in full document.

If you want to take care of it don't send a cease and desist letter - send them the proof that you paid.

If you send a cease and desist letter that will end their involvement and they will sell the debt to another CA and you get to start over with the next agency.

Should I wait for them to send me something in writing? They have not sent me anything, so I have no address or anything. When the automated message calls me every Sunday, they say this is NCO Financial, blah blah blah, concering genesis financial.....Why would genesis financial sell/give my info to another agency after I have paid it and they sent me a paid in full letter?

Okay I'll spell this out so you can understand:
1. It doesn't matter why Gensis transfered the account to a third party. Therefore it is a waste of my time (and yours) to speculate.
2. You are never going to get this figured out unless you talk to them (NCO).
3. You claim that you have the proof of payment. It is real simple. Pick up the phone, call them. Talk to someone and get the details. Tell them you paid the on XXX date and you have the receipt. Get their fax number or mailing address so you can send proof of payment.
4. Do so.
5. Go on with your life.
