My husband has a daughter. Said daughter just got married and is 24 years old. He's been paying arrears for what seems like forever. Today he got a letter from the state of Louisiana declaring that he now owes THEM 13,500 dollars in arrears. This doesn't make sense as he's been paying on it to the state of Texas for YEARS! What's going on and what can we do about this? Is there someone we can call that's not going to cost an arm, a leg, and our nonexistent firstborn? We can't afford a lawyer at this time, as he's being financially raped by the state for the foreseeable future. (this debt keeps INCREASING, even as he pays it weekly...) This is getting ridiculous.

Wow -
Are you REALLY comparing the obligation of your husband to support his daughter to rape? <spit>

Have your husband log on and ask his own questions. Or, heck, he could just call the folks who are asking for money and ask for clarification. I would suggest that he take a much nicer tone than you have here.

It really would be best to get your husband here - he will have answers to questions that you may not have. Thanks.

While she was a bit offensive in her wording this particular issue is something that seems to happen fairly often, and generally requires getting an attorney involved to fix it. It is pretty awful for the payor of child support to have one state not recognizing the payments he has made via another state. On top of that, its often the payee's fault that it got mishandled in the first place.

OP is a legal stranger to the situation. The NCP should post for himself.

Who said his payments are not being properly credited? Maybe he had arrears in two states due to mom being on state aid and therefore both states need paid. You are making a lot of assumptions with very little facts upon which to base them.

It seems like your husband is mistreated very badly. Perhaps give more details. I would react the similar way for moms who would try to side with government and rape her husband at all costs.
