What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania

My husband received a bill from a collections today on a debt that is at least 20 years old.

He bought a ring for a highschool girlfriend when he was 18 years old. They broke up not long after, and needless to say he never paid the debt to Kay Jewelers. This was in 1987-88.

We were pretty surprised when he got the letter. Is he legally obligated to pay?

Seems to me that he would definately fall under the Statue of Limitations for the state you live in.

I am in the same boat (it isn't a 20 year debt - but it has been over seven years since he was ordered to pay it). I posted just a little bit ago regarding statue of limitations in Texas. I think it is four years in Texas - and I am not sure what it would be in your state. You can find out though.

Good Luck!

Its probably now "Zombie Debt". This means the SOL already expired. You can either Pay it or send a cease and desist letter.

20 years later? Wow. Just send them cease and desist letter and forget about it. As stepheH mentioned SOL has long passed.
