What is the name of your state? Illinois

My husband and his ex, switch years on claiming thier son even/odd years. His ex claimed their son on her 2007 taxes and my husband will claim him on our taxes for 2008. Now with this being said how does the 2007 rebate work, my husband and I have been reading that it is an advance/credit on the 2008 taxes. So does the rebate go to the ex or my husband who will claim their son in 2008?

The rebate will go to the person who claimed the child on their taxes last year, so it would go to his ex.

The ex will get it for 2007, but for those who have a child on their 2008 return who was not on their return for 2007, they will get the $300 as a credit in 08. So the answer is that they both get it, but in different years. Just a perk of circumstances.

Hey Snipes, does that mean that if the father claims child A and the mother claims child B in 2007. But in 2008 the father claims B and the mother A they can get $300 more?

Yes, that is what it means.
In theory that is what it means, but I don't think that we can 100% count on it actually working that way when push comes to shove. It would be a double dip for a great quantity of divorced or separated parents, and I have a hard time believing that Congress won't somehow close that loophole before the 2008 filing season starts.

I could be completely wrong....but I am not prepared to "count" on it.
