What is the name of your state? IN
My aunt filed bankruptcy 22 years ago-now do to "life changes" needs to file again. How far back do they look at your record? Her attorney is asking if she had filed before, she wasn't sure how to answer...Thanks.

My God-what's so hard about saying yes?
The truth can't hurt her. It's never a good idea to lie to your attorney.

Answer Truthfully

A bankruptcy only stays on the credit report for 7 - 10 years, she filed 22 years ago. The attornies would spend more time looking up past history at this point. She can file it again without any penalty. Her lawyer should advise her of that before paying him/her for legal fees.
