My lease was up on my apartment in Brevard Co., FL on June 1, 2000. While waiting for my new lease to be delivered so I can sign it, I recently received a letter dated 6/23 stating that my rent had been increased $10/month on 6/1. When I called the manager's office, I was told that the previous assistant manager failed to send out the new leases increasing the rent and they are in the process of preparing all the new leases now. Shouldn't I have 30 days notice before they can raise the rent? Can I legally refuse to pay the extra $10 in June and July?
Thanks for your help.

Probably you are right, BUT might they refuse to renew your lease or be a bad reference and if so is it worth $20 to find out?

If you can work it out, you can sign the new lease with the $10 increase, then inform L that you were not given proper legal notice if the rent increase & do not owe it for June. Your alternative is to keep the letter & make a claim that L impropely withheld $20 from your security deposit after you move out.
