i live in colorado. i had signed a year lease and it expired in august 2000. since that time i have had a month-to-month lease. on july 20 i sent, via registered mail, my written notice to vacate. as a courtesy, i also called my landlord. when i asked him about being pro rated for august 1- 20, he told me that i'd be billed for the entire month of august because my lease is from the first to last day of every month. i can't find anything in my lease about this. can i do anything to end the lease 30 days from my notice?

YES the landlord is correct you pay for the whole month....

Unless you normally pay your rent on the 20th. Then YOU would be correct
