341 today and possible inheritance

My 341 was today for a Chapter 7- NoAsset. When I got home I got a call..from someone regarding my grandmothers estate. She died in 1994 !! It was rumored that we were to split a settlement from the EXXON Valdez Oil Spill but since thay havent paid a penny in 15 years I never anticipated seeing anything.

Well, Im not 100% positive that this call pertains to that...but I cant imagine why else I would get a call when I havent heard anything from this since 1994.

Before I return the call....what are all of my options?? I know Im supposed to report any money such as inheritance within 180 days after my Filing Date (Dec 16). But is there anything else I can do?? What would happen if I didint contact them till after the 180 days? Can I refuse my portion and have it split among the other beneficiaries? I just feel sick ....in fear...that this is my luck.

Remember that you do have a personal exemption amount which may exclude some of that money.

Thanks GaAtty for your suggestion. May I also ask if its possible to have the Bankruptcy dismissed before the Discharge or Closing date and to pay off the debt I owe all at once myself?? And would a voluntary dismissed BK be just as harmful on my credit?

And if this voluntary dismissal is not possible....the Trustee would give the difference back to me after 100% of the debt is paid, right? Or am I wrong?
