My friends parents are getting a divorce after 40yrs of marriage. He informed her this week that he has been seeing someone else for the past 3yrs and he is in love with this woman who is also married and has left her husband. He told her that he has seen a lawyer and he was told by him not to leave the house that she had to leave. From what my friend was telling me the husband is playing alot of mind games with his soon to be ex wife.Where does she stand legally? Will she have to leave her house? Is she intitled to alimony ect, ect? What should be her first move besides getting a lawyer? Thanks for any info anyone can give on this. This is in Delaware..

My response:

I don't understand what it is you're asking, because after 40 years of marriage, getting a lawyer WOULD be the first thing she should do.

There must be substantial assets in such a lengthy marriage, and the only way to protect herself, and to cover all of the ramifications of such a lengthy marriage would, in fact be, to obtain legal counsel.
