newjersey. i just found out while getting estimates to have central air installed that my hot water heater was not installed properly. it is propane and was vented into my oil burning furnaces flue. it was installed by a large propane company who i called out to look at it and the serviceman also said it wasn't legal. they never got a permit. this caused my furnace to malfuntion and soot has come out all over the house and is in our ducts. we have had to repaint and remove most of our carpet. what can we do?
