I live in Minnesota and my 14 year old son and his friends were making a volcano with vinager and baking soda last sunday (09/19/2010), and when one of the kids went to smell the vinager on a dare my son squeezed the bottle to get some on the other kids nose. Well more came out than expected and some of the vinager went in the other kids eye. There was a parent that was present just after it happened, and the kid that got the vinager in his eye told the parent that it was just an accident (my son was not trying to harm anybody). The kid said he was fine after flushing out his eyes. Now on Thursday night the police came over and charged my son with 5th degree assault (statute 609.224.1.2). The cop told me that the kid has been to the doctor and his eyes were still red. Is this something that we should try and fight when we get a court date or just go plead guilty. The police gave him the citation when my wife and I were gone and I only had a chance to breifly talk with the cop on the phone. Nobody in our family has ever been to court before so I do not know what to expect. Thank you.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Sounds like the cops caught a real Al Capone there. Seeing that you spoke to the police without contacting an attny then the only advice people will give is to seek an attny. Very few folks are familiar w/juvi courts.
